The goal is for you to come out of
this course with the confidence
that marriage is the right thing
for the two of you.

"Dave helped us answer questions about our relationship we didn't even know we should be asking, especially as a long distance couple. It helped us know for sure that we were ready for a marriage commitment." - Nick & Allison

I created this course because I’ve counseled way too many couples over the past 35 years who were struggling in their marriages.

Many of them now believed they shouldn’t have gotten married in the first place.

Instead of dealing with their doubts and concerns before they got married, they assumed their concerns were just nerves as they got swept away in the excitement of planning for the wedding.

And eventually their marriages ended up in serious trouble.

This course will help you avoid being in that situation.

My wife and I were serious about finding a lifelong partner... Time spent under Dave's guidance gave us the assurance to move forward. - Michael & Kim

As the instructor of this course, you would probably like to know a little about me. First of all, you can simply call me Dave, though I also answer to Dr. Dave, Pastor Dave, or even “Hey you.”

Over the past 35 years it’s been my privilege to help hundreds of couples prepare for marriage, save their marriages, or improve their marriages. Although I have a formal education that prepared me to do that, I’d say my greatest asset has been my own marriage which has now lasted 41 years. And yes, we are still loving our life together. But if you’re interested in my formal education, it includes a BA in Sociology from Westmont College, a Masters Degree from Talbot Seminary, and a Doctorate in Ministry from Western Seminary.

As an author I’ve written six books including Before You Get Engaged, Before You Live Together, and Just One More Thing: Before You Leave Home.

My wife Bernice and I live in Mountain View, CA. I love to play golf and travel. We have two sons, one daughter, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and eleven precious grandchildren.

If you’re thinking about getting married, hoping to get married, or want to make sure getting married is the right thing for you, it would be my honor to help you know for sure that you’ve found the right person and you’re both ready to get married.

What others are saying...

Our time working with Dave was incredibly beneficial, and we looked forward to each session. He was instrumental in getting our engagement and marriage off to a great start, and we are incredibly thankful. - Samantha & Jonathan

Pastor Dave helped us stay focused on God and His plan for us as individuals and as a couple, and he helped us look at dating, engagement, and marriage through the lens of God, His word, and His plans. After his counseling, we felt more equipped to make the second best decision in our lives! - Austin & Ellen

Dave led us to discuss things that helped us set clear expectations and understand each other better as we prepared for marriage and starting a family. Getting Dave's help was one of the best decisions we made before getting married. - Joyce & George

Though we both came from strong previous marriages and lost our mates to medical issues, we’re thankful for Dave’s counseling. He helped us see where we were compatible and what areas needed to be worked on. It was perfect for us. - Susie & Galen

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the course start and finish?
This is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
How long will each session take?
The videos themselves are intentionally short - not more than 5 minutes each. The additional written information will take 5-10 minutes to read. Then it's time for you to process and discuss the questions that the session asks. Each session will most likely run from 15-30 minutes, depending on how much time you discuss each topic.
How long should the whole course take to complete?
You could easily finish the entire course in under 2 hours if you wanted to hurry through it. But you will get the most out of the course if you take the time to fully engage in each topic. And you may find that some specific topics alone may take an hour or more to work through together. When I work with couples face-to-face, I typically take 3-4 hours, spread over 2-3 sessions, to process the important matters addressed in Know For Sure.
Can we get help from the instructor if we have questions while we are taking the course?
Yes! I can be reached by email at [email protected]. I want to do whatever I can to help you get the most out of this course.
Can the course be taken by just one of us, or does it require both of us?
Know For Sure is designed to help couples or individuals. In fact, if you as an individual are seeking a better understanding of where you are in a relationship and whether you're ready to get engaged and married or not, this course will be a big help in sorting out your feelings and the facts that surround your relationship.
Is there any benefit to taking the course if we’re already sure?
Absolutely! One of the best things you can do for your future marriage is to make sure you are both absolutely convinced that you have found the right person and you are ready to get married. Knowing you did everything you could to confirm that you are making the right decision will be an immense help as you work through the "for better or worse, richer and poorer" days that every married couple will face.
What if we take the course and we both come to different conclusions?
If that were to happen, the best thing you could do is talk, talk, and talk some more. Honestly. Transparently. But whatever you do, don't force your relationship to work and don't pretend that everything is fine if it's not. If it's right for you to go forward, you'll both know. If this scenario were to happen, I would be happy to help you process this individually or as a couple if you contact me at [email protected].
What if I am unhappy with the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.
